The Embers

the smoke of recent months,
has burned my eyes
and charred my throat,
blackened my lungs
and raced my heart.
the ash like snow,
blinding my vision
and suffocating my landscape.
but the heat remains
not completely extinguished,
it smolders still.
the embers here
dance and speak.
its movements graceful,
its popping tongue unique.
may the wind of god
whisper across these coals
igniting a flame once more.
rekindling the burning love
that once stoked the
furnace of this man.
rekindle the fires,
that once fueled this land.
