there is a strange silence

that begins at the first snow
the mountain mourns
the river quiets
there is a great majesty to be held here
climbing these ancient steps towards the heavens
the closest a man can get
under his own strength and accord
without the assists of combustion
without the aid of fossils
the closest a man can get to peace
not the peace of promise
from within the walls of religion
or the walls of government
the peace that passeth all understanding
according to your Jesus
I agree with the man
there are no words for the peace
on the top of the mountain
only a feeling that if I begin to speak of
the words turn to dust in my mouth
for I can do it no justice
nor do I intend to
